#12 CARPE DIEM Hiroo

Posted on 2014/06/16

We have decided to open a new dojo in Hiroo in Shibuya Ward. We haven’t even started the interior yet but we think it would be great if we could open on August 1st. The dojo will be right next to the Hiroo Shopping district about a 1 minute walk from Hiroo Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya line. It’s hard to believe we are going to be in such a good location.

This will be our third Carpe Diem Dojo. I don’t want to think of it as a kind of branch or something. We don’t have a head dojo or branches. I think it is enough to have just “Dojos”. Hiroo Dojo has a great ring to it, I think.

When we opened Mita Dojo we hired Iwasaki. Now he’s working hard and leading a bunch of excellent students there. At Hiroo it will be mainly Thomas, Iron and I instructing. I am looking forward to teaching our long time students from Aoyama Dojo at Hiroo. If Tsuyoshi is at Aoyama then everything is fine. I don’t have any worries there.

All I do all day everyday is look at plans. Toilet location, lighting, mat color… I think about so much I can’t sleep. I will continue to update our Facebook page as the construction progresses. So please keep watching.

The photo above was what Aoyama Dojo looked like at the start. In the end a dojo isn’t anything more than a box. The important thin isn’t the physical stuff, it is everything else. The level of instruction, the dojo atmosphere and its’ culture. Its things like these that are important for a great dojo. I really believe that Hiroo Dojo will have all of these things.
